The Itinerary
Day 1 - Ulaanbaatar Culture Hub
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the contrasting modern capital. Your day is a cultural immersion, visiting the Gandan Monastery to witness the vibrant morning rituals of the monks and exploring the National Museum of Mongolia to grasp the scale of Genghis Khan’s empire. Conclude this busy city day with a spectacular performance of traditional Mongolian arts, including throat singing, before retiring to your comfortable city hotel.
Day 2 - Flight to Murun & Nomadic Welcome
Today bridges the modern city and the ancient steppe. Take an early morning domestic flight to Murun, where your local guide meets you. Transfer by rugged vehicle to your guide’s nomadic family ger camp, where you receive a warm welcome. Spend the afternoon finalizing expedition provisions, meeting key wranglers, and settling into your traditional yurt for a night of authentic cultural immersion and deep rest before the trek begins.
Day 3 - Horse Selection & Expedition Start
The morning is one of focused preparation: finalizing pack arrangements, selecting your trusty Mongolian horse, and receiving a final briefing. Once mounted, the continuous wilderness trek begins. This first active day of riding immediately establishes the expedition rhythm, pushing deep into the steppe away from any roads before setting up your first mobile tent camp in a remote, pristine location.
Day 4 - Mountain Foothills & Panoramic Views
Push your endurance with an active ride into the forested foothills, navigating varied terrain and gaining elevation toward the high range. The effort is rewarded with spectacular, sweeping panoramic views of the entire lake basin and the taiga. Enjoy a high altitude picnic lunch before executing a thrilling descent back to the lower valleys, setting up your second mobile tent camp in the evening.
Day 5 - Khuvsgul Lake Shore Trek
Ride toward the vast Khuvsgul Lake, navigating through soft, open meadows and sections of dense forest. Spend the day trekking the remote shoreline, feeling the constant, brisk presence of the Blue Pearl of Mongolia. This is a day of continuous, focused riding and beautiful natural immersion, setting up your mobile camp near the water’s edge, far from established settlements.
Day 6 - Deep Taiga & River Crossing
The route moves deeper into the untouched taiga. This is a technical riding day, navigating dense woods and high brush. The high point of the trek is an exhilarating river crossing—a true test of the trust between you and your horse—before the afternoon is spent exploring the quiet solitude of this deep northern landscape. The team selects a remote river bank deep within the forest to establish camp.
Day 7 - Remote Herder Immersion
Today is the heart of your cultural experience. You ride to a distant, isolated nomadic family to spend the full day dedicated entirely to their traditional lifestyle. Participate actively in herding, livestock management, and household tasks. This raw, direct interaction offers unparalleled insight into the survival and customs of the steppe people. You set up your tent camp nearby, sharing a communal nomadic meal under the stars.
Day 8 - Ancient History & Long Ride
Today is one of sustained, powerful riding as you push across long stretches of plain and valley. Along the way, explore a profound site featuring Deer Stones, Bronze Age megaliths that stand sentinel over the vast landscape. The day connects the physical challenge of the ride with the powerful, ancient history of the land, concluding with a camp near the historical site.
Day 9 - Final Trek & Steppe Farewell
Enjoy a reflective, final morning ride, covering the last miles of the continuous expedition back toward the designated transfer point. Once the horses are unsaddled for the last time, the team gathers for a ceremonial farewell feast, cooked simply over the campfire, celebrating the success of the continuous trek and the bond formed with the land and the team.
Day 10 - Departure from Wilderness
After a final sunrise and breakfast in your last mobile camp, the logistics team transfers you from your remote location back to Murun. From there, you board your domestic flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Your journey concludes in the capital, carrying the incredible memories of ten days fully immersed in the silent, untamed heart of the Mongolian steppe.
