Nepal
About Nepal
Lace up your boots and prepare to look up, …way, way up, because Nepal is not a country that does anything at a human scale. Home to eight of the world’s ten highest peaks, including Everest itself, this small Himalayan kingdom packs more vertical drama into its borders than anywhere else on earth. But Nepal is not only about altitude. It is ancient temples draped in marigolds, prayer flags snapping across mountain passes, tea houses where strangers become friends over dal bhat, and the deep, unhurried warmth of a people who have lived intimately with these mountains for centuries.
The adventure that defines Nepal is the trek. Whether you walk to Everest Base Camp or loop through the Annapurna foothills, the experience is the same at its core: you slow down, the mountains get bigger, and something shifts inside you that is difficult to name but impossible to ignore. No ropes, no crampons, no climbing experience required, just commitment, a good pair of boots, and a willingness to put one foot in front of the other until the world looks completely different from where you started.
Beyond the trails, Nepal has more layers than most travelers expect. Kathmandu is a medieval city still very much in use, its royal squares and spinning prayer wheels barely pausing to acknowledge the 21st century. The Sherpa villages of the Khumbu region offer a window into a culture that has shaped the entire mythology of high-altitude adventure. And for families with younger children, there are routes and experiences that deliver the full weight of Nepal without the extreme altitude. This is a country that earns a permanent place in the stories families tell about themselves for the rest of their lives.

The Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu
Your journey begins the moment you land. Kathmandu hits all the senses at once, incense, color, chaos, and an energy that is entirely its own. Transfer to your hotel, shake off the travel, and let the city start working on you. Tonight, a welcome dinner sets the tone for what lies ahead.
Day 2 – Cultural Tour of Kathmandu
A full day to absorb one of Asia’s most extraordinary cities before the mountains take over. Visit Boudhanath Stupa, where pilgrims circle the great dome in an endless, meditative procession. Explore the living goddess temple of Kumari Chowk in Durbar Square, and pay your respects at Pashupatinath, the sacred Hindu temple on the banks of the Bagmati River. This is also the day to finalize your gear, meet your guide, and eat a proper meal before the trail begins.
Day 3 – Flight to Lukla, Trek to Phakding
The morning flight to Lukla is 35 minutes of pure anticipation, the Himalayan peaks growing in the windows until the plane drops onto one of the world’s most dramatic airstrips. The trek begins immediately, descending through pine forest and suspension bridges into the Dudh Koshi valley. Phakding sits at 2,610 meters, an easy first day, and a gentle introduction to what the trail demands.
Day 4 – Trek to Namche Bazaar
The day everyone talks about. The trail crosses the Dudh Koshi river multiple times on swaying suspension bridges before the final steep climb to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meters. Yak caravans pass you on the way up. On a clear day, your first glimpse of Everest appears above the ridge. Reaching Namche feels like arriving somewhere that has been waiting for you.
Day 5 – Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar
Rest days in Namche are anything but boring. A morning hike up to the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 meters earns a panorama of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam that recalibrates your sense of scale entirely. Back in town, wander the market, visit the Sherpa Culture Museum, and eat well. Your body is quietly doing critical work today, let it.
Day 6 – Trek to Dingboche
The trail climbs through Tengboche, where a brief stop at the monastery rewards you with chanting monks, juniper incense, and Ama Dablam filling the sky behind the altar. From there the landscape opens up into the high alpine valley of Dingboche at 4,410 meters, wider, quieter, and unmistakably closer to the roof of the world.
Day 7 – Acclimatization Day in Dingboche
Another essential rest day, this time with ambition. A hike to the nearby ridge at 5,100 meters is the highest most families will have ever stood, and the views of Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the Lhotse face are staggering. The effort also tells your body exactly what is coming. Return to the tea house, eat everything in sight, and sleep as well as altitude allows.
Day 8 – Trek to Lobuche
The trail narrows and the air thins as you climb through the Khumbu glacier moraine to Lobuche at 4,940 meters. The landscape here is raw and lunar, stripped back to rock, ice, and sky. A short detour to the memorial chortens for climbers lost on Everest brings a quiet, powerful moment of perspective before you settle in for the night.
Day 9 – Gorak Shep, Everest Base Camp & Kala Patthar at Sunset
The biggest day on the trek, and one nobody forgets. Morning brings the final push across the Khumbu glacier to Gorak Shep at 5,164 meters, drop your bags, and continue to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters. Stand there. Take it in. Let the kids understand what they have just done. In the late afternoon, climb Kala Patthar as the sun drops behind the peaks and Everest turns gold. The sunset from 5,545 meters is the finest view on the entire trek.
Day 10 – Trek to Pheriche
The body descends with relief and the legs find a new rhythm going downhill. Pheriche at 4,280 meters feels almost warm by comparison. The valley opens up, the lungs loosen, and there is a particular satisfaction in retracing ground you earned on the way up, this time knowing exactly what you are capable of.
Day 11 – Trek to Namche Bazaar
A long, satisfying descent back to Namche through familiar villages and suspension bridges that feel like old friends. The town welcomes you back like a returning expedition. Tonight calls for a celebration dinner, hot showers, and a moment to let it all sink in before the final stretch.
Day 12 – Trek to Lukla
The last morning on the trail. The descent to Lukla is bittersweet, legs strong, heart full, the mountains following you all the way to the airstrip. Tonight in Lukla belongs to the team: guides, porters, and the family that walked all the way to the foot of Everest together and came back changed.
